Tom Daley and Noah Williams claim men's synchro 10m platform silver

Tom Daley completed the Olympic set as he and Noah Williams won men’s synchro 10m platform silver at Paris 2024.

Daley scooped his fifth Olympic medal at his record-breaking fifth Games as Williams earned a first medal on his second appearance at an Olympics.

The pair, who were competing at a Games together for the first time, were near faultless as they delivered a score of 463.44 to sit behind Lian Junjie and Yang Hao of China.

After two rounds where Team GB and Canada could not be separated, Daley and Williams pulled away with a stunning fourth-round dive.

A composed finish powered the pair to silver ahead of the Canadians Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens in bronze.

"It's just so special," Daley said. "I mean this time last year, deciding to come back, not knowing whether I would make the synchro team, let alone qualify for a spot at the Olympics.

"And now to be here in Paris, diving in front of my son, who is just right there and actually asked me to come back.

"It's just so special. It completes the set. I now have one of every colour."

Silver joins Daley’s collection of gold from the same event in Tokyo 2020 and three bronzes stretching back to London 2012, as he became the first British diver to compete at five Games.

Williams claims his first medal on his men’s synchro debut having competed in the individual event only at Tokyo, with that event to follow later in the Games.

The 24-year-old fought back tears as he explained what the medal meant to him, having lost his long-time coach David Jenkins in 2022.

Having also gone through loss at a young age, with the passing of his father, Daley took over to answer for Williams.

He said: "I’ve never seen Noah cry in my whole life, and I know how much this has meant to him.

"Dave has been such a key part of Noah’s success and career, it's very sad that he's not here to be able to see this.

"But I know both Dave and my dad would be very proud to see us going in and doing a really, really solid performance there for a silver medal."

Williams composed himself to talk through the competition, revealing that their excellent fourth-round dive came off at the perfect time.

He said: "The fourth dive, I’d say pretty much last year was my worst dive.

"But it was Tom’s best, so obviously we have to use it.

"I've come a long way in the last year, just practising that, and I'm really glad it paid off."
