The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today relaunched its TeamGB.com website for mobile, tablet and desktop devices.
Partnering with the leading digital specialists in sport, Stadion, the BOA has developed a modern and fresh site which puts Great Britain’s Olympic athletes at the heart of its proposition, with deeper and richer data and information than ever before.
In time, and for the first time on the Team GB platform, all 6,000+ British Olympians since 1896 will have complete data – where is exists – listed on the site. Accompanying biographies and images, linking them to their team-mates, sports and the Games they competed in are being populated on a daily basis, with the majority already available on the site.
At Games-time the agile site will provide bespoke landing pages with live medal counts, schedules and results, creating a distinct look-and-feel for each Olympic Games.
The site will provide a better user experience with faster load times and a more responsive platform, greater depth of information, articles and data, and a richer video platform for users wishing to navigate the BOA’s burgeoning collection of archive footage and contemporary features.
Stadion, who work closely with Manchester City, Paris St. Germain and many other leading sporting organisations, have completed a mobile-first redesign and build of TeamGB.com, which was last refreshed in 2013.
The collaboration between the BOA and Stadion gives Team GB and its Olympians a new digital home that is fully representative of the Team GB brand and one of the country’s most modern and diverse sports team.
A feature of the new site is complete data for every Olympic athlete ever to have taken to the field of play for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, dating back to 1896. A pilot API (Application Programming Interface) solution provided by the Olympic Channel’s Sports Data Warehouse was utilised to extract the medal and performance history of Great Britain in both summer and winter Olympic competition, and in doing so the BOA becomes one of the first National Olympic Committees to take advantage of access to this data archive.
The data has been used to populate detailed athletes profile pages, sport profiles as well as the history of Team GB at each Games. In time it is hoped that the BOA will be able to marry this information stream with its physical archive through digitisation.
As part of the redesign process, all of the content from the previous site was also imported to maintain the depth of the BOA’s written archive. No articles were lost in the redesign process.

Their team's knowledge, capabilities and adaptability have helped us create something truly special. I am always filled with confidence when working with them and we look forward to continuing into the next phase.”
