Team GB celebrated the success of Tokyo 2020 in style last night as over 100 athletes joined with fans and partners of Team GB at a star studded event at London Evolution.
Hosted by Orla Chennaoui and Gethin Jones, the Team GB Ball has become an annual fixture with the efforts and triumphs of British Olympic athletes recognised.
Ahead of the Ball, three awards were voted for which were presented on the night by key figures at the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Firstly, the GB Choice Award was won by Tom Daley and Matty Lee for their superb performance in the men’s synchronised 10m platform, defeating the Chinese duo by just 1.23 points. British Olympic Association CEO Andy Anson presented the award to the pair.
The second award of the night saw Team GB’s Tokyo 2020 Chef de Mission, Mark England, present an award to Team GB swimming coach David McNulty in recognition of his sustained excellence and dedication to the British swimming programme. His successes in Tokyo included bringing through swim sensation Tom Dean who won gold in both the men’s 200m freestyle and men’s 4x200m freestyle.
Finally, HRH The Princess Royal, an Olympian herself, presented the final award for Olympians’ Olympian to Tom Daley making it an aquatics clean sweep. After three previous Olympic Games and two bronze medals, Tom finally struck gold with diving partner, Matty Lee, to the delight of the nation.
