The British Olympic Association (BOA) has today announced Pete Ambrose as Team GB’s Chef de Mission for the Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023 Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).
Ambrose, who is a Sport Engagement Manager at the BOA, will lead the Team GB delegation from 21 to 28 January 2023 in what will be the 16th Winter EYOF. He has previously held performance positions at four Olympic Games, including Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.
Taking place across the Italian territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia and neighbouring regions in Austria and Slovenia, the competition will span eight days and fourteen sporting disciplines: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, ski cross, ski jumping, ski mountaineering, snowboard alpine and cross, and snowboard freestyle.
Ambrose said: “It’s a massive privilege to be leading Team GB in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The EYOF is a great opportunity for athletes to build international competition experience in what for many will be their first exposure to a multi-sport event environment. These competitions are a proven learning ground, and there are countless examples of Team GB athletes going on to become senior Olympic athletes and medallists after taking part in an EYOF. We want every member of the Team to have a great week and use it as a springboard for the future.”
