Owens and Cunningham to join BOA Athletes’ Commission

Olympic silver medallists Ryan Owens (track cycling, Tokyo 2020) and Caden Cunningham (taekwondo, Paris 2024) have been appointed to the BOA Athletes’ Commission for a two-year term as part of an initiative to enhance representation across key areas of the Commission.

Their appointment comes alongside a recent election in which Olympic Champions Bryony Page and Eve Muirhead were re-elected for a second term, and Charlie Guest, Emily Muskett, Jessica Piasecki, and bronze medallist Lewis Richardson were elected to serve their first term on the Commission.

The Commission also held an internal election process for the Vice Chair position, which saw triathlete Non Stanford voted by members of the AC to serve a two-year term.

Stanford, who made her Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games, has been a member of the Commission since November 2022 and will support Chair Lizzie Simmonds with the leadership and strategic direction of the group. Stanford will also act as an athlete representative on the BOA’s National Olympic Committee (NOC). Her term runs for two years from January 2026 to December 2027.

Speaking on her appointment, Stanford said; “I'm delighted to have been elected as the BOA Athlete Commission Vice Chair, and to have been voted in by my fellow Commission members is an even greater honour.

“I'm excited to support Lizzie in her role and to continue the great work that the Commission has already done in representing the voice of our fellow Olympians. With Milan Cortina less than a year away there will be plenty of hard work ahead and I look forward to ensuring athlete experience and interest remains central, and that the current, and future, athlete body is accurately represented.”
