History-making men's artistic gymnasts take fourth in team all-around final

History-making British gymnasts have rewritten the record books in qualifying at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Team GB have qualified 11 gymnasts to the individual gymnastics final at the Paris Olympics.

Ahead of the individual events, it was time for the team events and the men's team produced a mighty effort to clinch fourth in the men's all-around team.

The group of Max Whitlock, Jake Jarman, Joe Fraser, Harry Hepworth and Luke Whitehouse came together to go just 2.266 points off the USA for bronze in a fine performance that sets them up perfectly for their respective individual finals to come.

“Fourth is always difficult, we’ve come fourth quite a few times at the Olympic Games now," he said. "Right now, it feels quite raw but overall we can be quite proud.

"Looking at each and every performance we’ve done, we did everything we possibly could. Fourth is still a high position in the world and we can take a lot of positivity from that.

"We’ve made history from the number of finals we’ve made in qualifications and now we can try and move forward, take confidence from today and hopefully (finals) can go to plan.”

Whitlock is looking for his third consecutive pommel horse gold, the first British gymnast to make four consecutive individual apparatus finals.

Jarman and Hepworth are the first British men to make the vault final in 12 years - qualifying fifth and eighth respectively, whilst Hepworth also becomes the first British man to appear in the rings final.

Jarman had the top score in qualifying for the floor and will be joined in the final by Luke Whitehouse, who ranked fifth.

Six individual apparatus finals is a new Olympic best for Great Britain's men while Jarman and former world champion Fraser will also contest the all-around final.

In the women's competition, Becky Downie's return to the Olympics has been rewarded with place in in the uneven bar final while Georgia-Mae Fenton and Alice Kinsella qualified for the all-around final.
