Team GB, ParalympicsGB and British Gas have today launched a competition challenging young people aged 5-11 to design a sustainable school of the future.
Supported by free curriculum-linked learning resources, the competition introduces pupils to themes around renewable energy and sustainable living. The winning entrant will be awarded a £15,000 British Gas Positive Energy Grant to make their school a happier, healthier, greener place, with a grant of £2,500 awarded to four runners up.
The competition forms part of Get Set For Positive Energy, an exciting education programme from Team GB, ParalympicsGB and British Gas which aims to reach up to one million young people and families across the UK by 2028, empowering children and their communities to get behind the drive to save energy and create a greener future.
With a requirement for schools to have a climate action plan in place by 2025, the programme supports teachers by providing a range of free learning resources that can easily be adopted as part of a wider green learning plan.
Team GB and ParalympicsGB’s Get Set was originally created as the official education programme for London 2012 and now offers a broad range of free, cross-curricular resources and activities for schools and community groups across the nation.
The partnerships between Team GB, ParalympicsGB and British Gas launched in 2023 with Olympian Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Paralympian Jack Hunter-Spivey unveiling an inspiring mural at Katarina’s former primary school in Liverpool as a visual reminder to the pupils about the contribution they can make in driving positive change.
The competition to design a sustainable school closes on the 28th March. More details, including how to enter, can be found here.
