Dina Asher-Smith is shocked by her times after 16 months off the track as she sealed victory over 60m in Dusseldorf.
The 25-year-old ran her fastest-ever indoor season opener in Karlsruhe on Friday - matching her personal best of 7.08s - and followed up 40 hours later with 7.12 and another win at the ISTAF Indoor.
Asha Philip’s British record of 7.06 is in sight with Asher-Smith back in action in Lievin, France on February 6.
“I am surprised about coming out like this,” said the 200m world champion.
“It was a shock to run 7.08s in Karlsruhe and a good race again here. I am happy to be back running again, it’s been a long time since my last race and I’m looking forward to the next ones.
“It would be really nice to get the British record.”
Asher-Smith, taking on an indoor season for the first time since 2018, has now run sub-7.15 for 60m on 21 occasions. The next most by a British woman is Philip with 17.
The triple European champion won her heat in 7.15 and got a reasonable start in the final, extending clear of ever-improving Swiss Ajla Del Ponte by 0.4s.
Asher-Smith hopes to run at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled for Torun, Poland on 5-7 March, after her next World Athletics Indoor Tour stop in France.
“The competitive juices are flowing again, it’s very nice to be competing,” she said.
“I love it. This is my job, I am passionate about it and about feeling the adrenaline.”
