BOA statement: IOC Member Alex Gilady

The British Olympic family was enormously saddened to hear the news of the death of senior IOC Member Alex Gilady at the age of 79. Alex was a driving force behind the development of the televising of the Olympic Games and played an important role overseeing the organisation of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Chair of the British Olympic Association, Sir Hugh Robertson, said:

"Alex Gilady was both a leading figure in the International Olympic Committee and a great friend to British Olympic sport. As Vice President of NBC, he played a key role in the development of the Olympic Games on television and also as an important member of the IOC London 2012 Co-ordinating Committee.

"Our thoughts go out to his family, our friends in the Israeli NOC and all who knew him across the global Olympic family. He will be greatly missed."
