Double Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee has been elected as Chair of the European Olympic Committee (EOC) Athletes’ Commission.
The former Team GB triathlete, who joined the Commission as a member in 2021, was appointed as Chair at the at the 7th European Athletes’ Forum and Assembly in Rome.
The news follows Brownlee's appointment to the International Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission in 2022. He also remains a member of Team GB's Athletes' Commission.
Formed in 2001, the EOC Athletes’ Commission is responsible for making sure the athlete’s voice forms a fundamental part in the decision-making processes within the EOC.
Brownlee said: “It’s a great honour to become the EOC Athletes’ Commission Chair. I strongly believe that athletes are the most important stakeholder in sport and being able to represent and stand for the European athletes of the Olympic Movement is a great honour and responsibility. I want to do everything I can to promote the Olympic Movement in Europe."
